They are pretty laggy on 4 cylinder cars. But make good power and they are really cheap. If i where you i would look or a hx 35 for a hy 35. Hy are smaller then the HXs, Hxs mostly come on manual cummins. HY's came on autos....There are alot of holset turbos out there cant name them all. Hx and hys usually what you see the most i guess. Go take a look at DSMtuners. There is about a 500 page thread on HOlset turbos.

You cant size anything on them to your car or cars needs....People use them with good results and deal with any short falls as a good since they bought the charger cheap....A better suited turbo will always make a better power band

im not sure how you wouldever get that to spool correctley then they dont wave waste gates if i remember correctley. on mikes old dodge it had a stock turbo with the 6 speed man, it ws 2,000 rpms before the wick was lit, and thats feeding it with 360 ci vs not a lot on a car...

well theres a guy down her with a stock redtop claiming 500hp on his own tune "i know safe right" but ethier way i wanted to do some research about it and ran across this http://www.articlealley.com/article_760594_32.html so i know it can be spooled but id have to get a custom manifold made and i guess ive decided i dont wanna put a 300dollar turbo on a 800 dollar custom manifold

being spoold and driveable are two different things... my old supra had a 90mm on it with a HUGE center section, 4" in and out.... it would spool and once on it was dumb... just sucked huge donkey dick the other 99.9 % of the time you drive it...

just do a nice "big" small turbo or a medium one...... dont those cars turn like 6500 7000 tpms? get one that on by 3K and ride.... just remember for every 500 rpms of lag you have is 100 hp exta you need to make it up... thats proby not true but you get the idea... back years ago i was running he supra bpued... 420whp... stephens car made 650 whp.. on a old school T76 greedy setup... From a dead stop i would stay 3-4 cars ahead of him until the top of 3ed gear..then in 4th he would put 3 or so cars on me.

hp isnt as importan as fun to drive and drivable...

there are several variations of the HX40. some with 6 blade wheels some with 7 and 8 blade wheels. Generally the 7-8 blade wheels will spool better but not make quite as much top end hp as the 6 blade does.

there are alsol variations in the turbine wheel too. I forget what they are though.

The HX and HY turbos have integrated wastegates. The HY35 is hardpiped to the compressor housing. As stated earlier the HY35 has an extremely small turbine, used on the 01 automatic only I think. Where are you finding the HX-40s? I may be in the market for one.
