So, I was able to finally have a day off with compliant weather. Heygotboost contacted me a few weeks ago and we were able to get everything coordinated today. I took delivery of his Evo and it doesn't matter how many times I see this car, I am always impressed. He had some specific areas that he wanted me to pay attention to, namely the front fender which a cat had apparently had its way with. This was an exterior and engine bay detail - no interior Anyhow, here is a list of what all was used for the detail.

So here are some shots of the car before I did anything to it. The car looked like it was in pretty good shape save for the fender damage and a few other minor things.

I proceeded to presoak the car with some P21S TAW in my 1Z Atomizer. I did this to pull any wax off of the car and all that. I sprayed the car down one side at a time and agitated it with my Schmitt. Much to my surprise, there was some kind of wax on the car that was hiding a LOT of stuff. The paint immediately became more dull and more spiderwebs, scratches, and RIDS were easily viewable.

After that shock, I began to wash the car. I did the usual here: I shot some foam on the car and washed the car with a Detailersdomain Uber Wash Sponge. It's important to use a slow stream of water to wrinse the soap off, it sheets off very easily and also to use the 2 bucket method to avoid unnecessary scrathes.

After washing and drying the car, here's what I had to work with.

After surveying the damage and formulating a plan for polishing, I began to mask off the car. I swear I used 3/4 of a roll of tape on this car... but that's alright, had to do it right!!

After I masked the car off, I clayed it and pulled it into the garage to get out of the heat for polishing. Here are a few shots of some of the fender/hood area, some pretty gnarly swirls and stuffs.

I did a little trial and error here. I started off with a Green CCS pad with some Menzerna 106FA on the hood. After that pass, I buffed off the broken-down polish and had to look twice... the hood looked worse!! I don't know exactly what was on it but it almost looked like orange peel. I decided that I needed to go a little more aggressive. I went with some Menzerna PO85RD on an Orange CCS pad this time and it took some of it off. I ended up doing 4 total passes on the hood. 1 with Green/106FA, 2 with Orange/PO85RD, and 1 finishing pass of Green/106FA to clean it up and provide a deeper shine. Here are a few shots of the driver's side hood/fender after I was done.+

The sides of the car and the rear were in much better shape and I only had to do 1 pass each of Orange/PO85RD followed by a finesse pass of Green/106FA.

Check out the reflection, this is with no LSP applied at all - I was quite happy with the outcome of this car.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/JPWEraser/Steven%20Evo/DSCF0171.jpg
I then went on to waxing the car. IMO, there was no other choice but P21S 100% Pure Carnauba wax. This wax is awesome for darker cars. It provides a DEEP shine and an indredible depth to the car. It also protects quite well and will last a good while if applied correctly.

While I was waiting on the wax to cure, I cleaned up the engine bay a little. Not much was needed here, but I was asked to tidy it up a little bit. I used Adam's APC and a microfiber cloth to clean up some of the grit and grime and clean off the misc. hoses and wire loom here and there. After that, I used Adam's VRT on the rubbers and Adam's In & Out on everything else. Here are the results.

After the wax had time to cure, I buffed all of the residue off and put on another coat. While this coat was curing, I wiped down the door jambs, hood liner, trunk liner, and any place where polish residue could hide. Once the 2nd coat of P21S cured, I buffed it off. The final steps in this detail were to dress the tires with Adam's VRT, clean off the wheels with some APC and a microfiber cloth, and clean up the windows with Adams Glass Cleaner and a Detailersdomain Uber Glass Microfiber cloth. Here are a couple shots of the car outside after everything was finished.

I was very pleased with the outcome on this car and I am confident that the owner shared my feelings on that. It's a killer car, that's for sure.

Thanks! I get my supplies mostly from www.Detailersdomain.com . I have a personal relationship with Phil the owner and and he sells great stuff. I get a few odds and ends through www.Autogeek.net sometimes too; Phil doesn't sell P21S wax or some stronger cleaners like DP Cleanse All that I like to use sometimes so I get it there.

Well, I am in the process of writing up a guide to basic washing, maybe it'll help you keep from making it worse. I'll link it here when I'm done.
