Ok, Uno just smoked the crap out of me in his ls1 z28. I have a stock 94 mustang gt with a gear, don't really know for sure what it is prolly 3:73, but that's the only mod. I need to do something to this car other than nitrous that would make up about 3/4 sec in the 1/4 mile. Would a cam and intakes do this, what are my options and I would like to keep it around $500-$700.

Best bang for the buck imo is Boost... You need a blower...

H/C/I might make it a close race. Those LS1's are hell on wheels

My car cuts out at 5400 rpms is this normal for a stock 94 5.0. I would think it should rev till 6000 or so. If this is not normal what could make it be doing this?

6250 via the stock rev limit in the ecm. It's prob the factory gauge, test it against an autometer or a good timing light with a tach.

Will do, but I think my plugs may be bad.

Does it hit the rev limiter?

I don't think so, I think it just starts cutting out, cause if it hit the rev limiter it would kind of bounce off of it and it doesn't do that, it just cuts out.

Maybe weak valve springs. How long has it been since the last tune up?(plugs and wires)

I just got the car, so I really don't know how long it has been since it has had plugs, but I got some today and that is where I am going to start at.

Best advice yet. Get new plugs, wires, rotor cap & button, etc. Run a compression test on the motor while you change the plugs to determine the health of the engine, and if it's healthy, then you can look at mods.

The achilles heel of the small block ford is the cylinder heads ; the stock ones aren't worth much. Unfortunately, aftermarket heads are $$$, so if you want to make a SBF faster, you have to drop the coin for good heads.

Revving a stock 5 liter to 6000 is a joke anyways, most run best in the 5200-5500 rpm shift point range.

I changed the plugs and it made it go up to 5600 -5700 instead of 5400 and it doesn't feel like it's cutting out, the old plugs did look terrrible, so I guess that was a good start. Another question, someone has put a blue adjustable clutch quadrant under the dash, my clutch has a lot of slack in it, how do I use the quadrant to adjust my clutch.

I adjust my clutch on the firewall not on the quadrant. My quadrant is adjustable but you have plenty of adjustment on the cable and firewall. If they did not put a firewall adjuster or adjustable cable on it i would advise doing so.

the stock firewall adjuster is gone from what he said earlier when i talked to him.

As Steve Petty said the stock heads are junk. And as I said get a set of valve springs.

They don't come with a adjuster stock it is just a rubber plug more less. If it has a adjuster there see if he can get the slack out of the cable with it.If it has a adjustable cable pull the inspection plate off the trans and adjust it there. Mine is set perfect and still has almost 1/4" of slack in it. You don't want the cable tight when the clutch is not engaged.

Also it could very well just be a stretched cable my stock cable stetched and i broke 2 upr cable's. If he buy's one get a steeda adjustable or stock non-adjustable.

It had a plastic dial thing where the rubber piece used to be in the firewall, I turned it a little bit and sure enough it tightened it up. Anyone got any gt 40 heads or intakes?
