Any of you Mustang Driver doing your own tuning? Just curious.. I'm thinking of buying SCT's PRP package instead of paying that $$$ and more for dyno tuning...Street tuning is probably better anyway... I know there's a pretty STEEP learning curve to PRP but hell, I could pay for it 2 or three times for what it would cost to Dyno tune a couple of times..That is, if I dont send the pistons through the hood..:lol2: Any thoughts?

a steep learing curve might invole some broken parts.id try and find sombody who knows the program that i could ask 1000 questions to.datalogging will be a must when trying to find help.find out what everyone else is using on the mustang boards, and just use that.that way you have a network of people who can help answer questions.

I agree with Dan - find some people that have the same system you have and pick their brains - READ, READ, READ. Make sure you fully understand what you're doing before you do anything. Too little fuel or too much timing can result in a melted piston or worse.

The cost really is not that much different because the pro race software does not come with a chip or a programmer. The software is $350.00 and the Programmer is about the same price so that is $700.00. I can tune your care for close to that on the Dyno and take half the time it would take you to learn the software.

Yea Johnny..I know you can bro...Its a principle thing... I've been out of the "Performance" Loop for a bunch of years, But just like I did back then, I wanna jump in head first and do It all myself.. I already have the Xcal2 Handheld and have loaded a few tunes..(and finally got the guy to unlock all the user Parameters)..But hell, With the tune on it now there's nothing to change tbh... What I'm thinking of is when I put the forged shortblock in and turn thee wick up on the blower... I've done a shitload of datalogging under different conditions and understand how it all works..I just have no way of changin anything without the PRP..And I dont know how to use PRP obviously. Never had it... Dunno, Hate to spend $$ on the dyno when I know for sure my setup is changing and I could spend that same $$ on the software and do it on the Street and get it perfect for conditions, and still have the software for the next change... As far as Breakage, I "Think" I know enough to avoid poping a new motor.. Just dont know anything about the software... If it wasnt for the PRP being locked to the ECM like the handheld, I'd do it in a heartbeat...Then again, who wouldnt..lol...
Hey Johnny, PM me a price on welding in some Maximum Motorsports Subframes..Full length.. Along with the TQ boxes and Axle Tubes... Did I already ask you that? lol Lemme know.. btw, I lost your # already..

i would reccomend doing it yourself, its not really that bad, it would be nice to have a wideband 02 , im not fimular with your software, but i would be sure to get something that can data log, im not really into the mustang scene anymore myself, but tuneing is tuneing and i wouldnt wana be running for 350$ dyno tune every time i change something on my car.

Johnny Tunes tham Obviously.. Other than Him I've only heard of 1 other shop around thats into Mustangs..Although I cant remember who the hell it is..lol Thats another reason I'm leaning heavily toward tuning mine myself.... I've datalogged the shit out of it over the last 6 months..I just cant adjust anything for weather, parts changes, etc.. I'm using a PLX devices wideband for AFR. Everything else is off the ECM... And I have a few changes in the pipeline that are not gonna take place all at once..It will SUCK to have to go back to a dyno every time...Could probably build a new motor for what it would end up costing in dyno time alone... I should soon be right at or just short of 500 RWHP... I HOPE!!..lol

MPH has tuned both of my cars, quick turnarounds and reasonable prices.

heard that 87yota they tuned mine and my old ladys, Tim has tuned so many cars he just has to pull a similiar tune off his laptop, load it, and pull it a few pulls on the dyno and its done as long a he doesn't have any mechanical trouble with the car. I also have the pro racer software i figured i would try to tune my car myself but my new computer has vista operating software and i have had i time getting my prp to work with it. so i ended up having MPH to tune it. maybe one of these days i will figure out how to datalog so i can try to figure out how to tune lol

I say get it yourself....it took me all of 2weeks to learn hp tuners...just do your research and look at what others are doing...if you understand the terminology of efi you can learn to tune it...on the other hand if you know nothing about efi just keep paying the other guys to do it.....
